Twentieth-Century Russian Literature consists of selected papers from the Fifth World Congress of Central and East European Studies, held in Warsaw in 1995. The first section contains articles on writers from the early decades of the twentieth century, with special emphasis on poets who have previously received less attention in the scholarly literature: Ivan Konevskoi, Elena Guro and Maksimilian Voloshin. The second part features studies devoted to a wide range of authors and works from the post-Stalin period, ranging from Pasternak's Doctor Zhivago, through such major figures of the recent era as Trifonov and Brodsky, to some of the most significant contemporary writers, including Vladimir Makanin, Andrei Bitov and Tatyana Tolstaya. Twenty-one scholars from seven countries have contributed to the volume.
