This is the true story of a love affair that began online in June 2007. He was in Kathmandu, an ex-Irish Army officer working for the UN and she was in Cork working as a supply teacher. It is set against the background of the Nepalese elections of 2008 and the Sudan elections of 2010 when South Sudan became a separate country.
After her adventurous journey to Kathmandu to meet Patrick, Liz finds the long-distance separation and lack of communication difficult. The worst part is that she is powerless to do anything about it. She copes with the loneliness by revisiting her once favourite occupation as a flaneuse. We stroll with her as she explores Budapest, Berlin and Hanoi. We get a taste of Rome, Bilbao and Shanghai.
The people who enter her world: her lover, friends, colleagues and strangers are candidly and sometimes bluntly portrayed which makes them as vulnerable and exposed as she is.
