The Battle Within: The Next Mission is a Veteran-centered guide to recovery, healing, and rebuilding life after military service.
For many Veterans, the mission does not end when the deployment is over or the uniform comes off. Trauma, PTSD, depression, anxiety, grief, moral injury, chronic pain, addiction, isolation, damaged relationships, and the loss of identity and purpose can create another battle-one that happens within.
The Battle Within was created to speak directly to that battle in language Veterans understand.
At the heart of the book are the 12 Missions, a practical path that moves from acknowledging the battle to accepting help, examining the past, breaking the silence, taking accountability, repairing what can be repaired, rebuilding purpose, maintaining recovery, and ultimately returning to serve others.
Readers are also introduced to the 12 Codes, the Battle Buddy concept, the Home Unit, and the Homefront Mission-giving families and loved ones a place in the recovery process while making it clear that they are not responsible for completing the Veteran's recovery.
This book does not ask Veterans to forget what happened, erase their past, or become the person they were before everything changed.
It asks a different question:
What is your next mission?
For the Veteran who feels lost after service, the Veteran fighting addiction or mental health struggles, the Veteran already walking the road of recovery, and the family trying to understand the battle happening at home, this book offers a path forward built around honesty, accountability, connection, recovery, identity, purpose, and service.
Your service may have ended.
Your battle may have changed.
But you still have a mission.
The next mission is recovery.
No Veteran fights alone.
