Read Seneca in Latin.

You have met these lines in translation. Only time is ours. We die a little every day. It is not because things are hard that we do not dare. This book lets you read them in Seneca's own words - and understand them yourself, with no dictionary at your elbow and no grammar needed.

SENECA: Read the Stoics in Latin is a graded reader built for one pleasure: opening a page of real Seneca and knowing exactly what it says.

Each of the twenty-two chapters takes one beloved Stoic idea and climbs to it gently:

• a famous line to aim at;
• a simple retelling in easy Latin, every new word explained in the margin right beside it;
• a small illustration to fix the scene;
• then Seneca himself - the original sentence, fully glossed.

The vocabulary builds from chapter to chapter, so words you learn early come back later as old friends, and a complete Index Verbōrum in the back lets you jump anywhere to review a word you have forgotten.

Among the lines you will read - in Latin, and understand:

• Omnia aliēna sunt, tempus tantum nostrum est. - All things are borrowed; time alone is ours.
• Nōn quia difficilia sunt nōn audēmus, sed quia nōn audēmus difficilia sunt.
• Cotīdiē morimur. - We die a little each day.
• Vīvere tōtā vītā discendum est. - Living must be learned one's whole life long.
