Practice to Mastery: AP® Comparative Government and Politics Practice Exams gives students twelve full-length practice examinations built to the published structure of the AP® Comparative Government and Politics Exam - 708 original questions in all, 660 multiple choice and 48 free response - each followed by a complete answer key, detailed explanations, scoring guides, and a table for estimating an AP® score.
Every examination mirrors the real one. Section I has 55 multiple-choice questions in one hour, mixing individual questions with question sets built on data figures, tables, excerpts from constitutions and official documents, and original analytical passages, spread across the five units of the course in the published proportions. Section II has four free-response questions in one hour and thirty minutes: a Conceptual Analysis, a Quantitative Analysis built on an author-drawn data figure, a Comparative Analysis of two course countries, and an Argument Essay. Difficulty is mixed and topics are interleaved, just as on exam day.
All questions center on the six course countries - China, Iran, Mexico, Nigeria, Russia, and the United Kingdom. Across the twelve examinations the free-response questions rotate through different concepts, data sets, and comparisons, so students practice applying course concepts to every country from many angles rather than memorizing a few favorite examples.
Each multiple-choice explanation explains the reasoning behind the correct answer and names the unit and topic tested, so students can sort their errors and see exactly where to focus. Each free-response question has a scoring guide that follows the examination's point structure, with examples of responses that earn credit for describing, explaining, comparing, and arguing with evidence from the course countries. A score-estimation table at the end of each examination combines the two sections into an estimated AP® score.
Because AP® Comparative Government examines governments as they operate today, content was checked against current sources at the time of writing, reflecting recent developments such as the United Kingdom's 2026 change of prime minister, the selection of a new Supreme Leader in Iran, Russia's 2026 State Duma election, the end of hereditary seats in the House of Lords, and Mexico's elected Supreme Court.
All questions, explanations, scoring guides, and figures are original, and the content is nonpartisan. The book is the companion to Practice to Mastery: AP® Comparative Government and Politics Workbook and repeats no question from it. Use it for timed practice through the spring, for a diagnostic early in the course, or for an intensive final month.
