PLANT BIOTECHNOLOGY

Today, genetic engineering has given us crops that can yield more, better resist pests and diseases, better survive shipping or simply taste or look better. Plants can also be engineered to produce pharmaceutical chemicals or proteins, some of which have been commercialized, and many more have been demonstrated in model plants. In Plant Biotechnology we provide fundamental concepts of plant biology, plant molecular biology, genetic engineering; uses for biotechnology in agriculture like insect, virus, herbicide resistance, protection from bacterial and fungal pathogens, tolerance to salt and drought; while also highlighting the medical and industrial uses. The book concludes with coverage of the regulation of biotechnology products and intellectual property. Throughout the text we have included more than 100 full-color diagrams and illustrations to better explain key ideas, and each chapter ends with a section of further readings, which includes original published articles as well as other sources that might help the readers understand the topic more closely. Finally, we have endeavored to write this book using straightforward and jargon-free language.
