He is cold, scarred, and desperate to feel something, even if it is his own destruction.

The dynamic changes when Vea is assigned as Kaelo's "External Nerve." Forced to watch his brutal matches from the sidelines, she becomes his biological tether. Since he cannot feel when he is dying, she must signal his limits.
