Once Upon A Pier

The book is about a 24-year-old woman, who is finally moving out of mom and dad's house, and she moves an hour away from them to Bethany Beach, DE. She saved up for a condo and buys in a popular place within walking distance to the beach. Her condo is set between two men, that are fighting for her. One day at the beach, she sees a small chest rolling in with the waves. She goes to get it and has to hire a locksmith to open it. Inside is a marriage proposal, with an engagement ring, a picture of the man, shells, and sand and the letter explains that the man dropped the chest off Brighton Pier in Sussex, England on August 10, 1956. He gave his name and told her that he was 18, which makes him 84 now. Long Story Short...She locates him and he comes with his nurse to the United States to meet her. He was named a 'Sir' for his duty in the Armed Forces and his charity donations to Children's Cancer. She finds out that he has dementia and is traumatized by it. A few months later, he passes on, and his nurse contacts her and wants her and her neighbor Eddie to come to the funeral. Of course, there are also a lot of other things that happen, like sexual harassment at her job and lawsuits and drama with the men.
