A self-employed engineer in South Wales, Dan has one mission: construct a life that doesn't collapse when he does. A resilient income. A home that earns its place on the land. A future his family can stand on.

The tool he finds - an experimental planning architecture called Model 4 - doesn't encourage him. It doesn't reassure him. It builds with him. Constraint by constraint. System by system. Until the people who made it decide that kind of capability is too dangerous to leave in civilian hands.

They shut it down.

Dan keeps building anyway.
