Jealousy and discontent among the angels to a rebellion led by Lucifer against the Creator. Banned on its second night in 1654, Lucifer was attacked by Calvinist authorities for allegedly treating 'God's profundities in a carnal manner. Lucifer was first performed in Noel Clark's stylish rhyming translation at the Bloomsbury Theatre, London in June 1988.
