Conflict looms over the Starfall Peninsula. Valmere and Cerulean, the human kingdoms, are locked in a bloody trade war. The high elven Republic of Aelintharil rots from within as a dangerous new ideology rises. The wood elven nation of Riftwood sits silent within their borders, insular and unwelcoming.
Lord Kaidyn Arren is a half-elf in a world where most believe the races should never mix. At sixteen, his father sold him to King Raemar Valmere in exchange for land and power. Officially, he is now the captain of Prince Lucian's personal guard. His true role, however, is much darker. Haunted by the memory of his first love, he wrestles with that darkness, fueled by the strange magic that threatens to devour him.
Eighteen years ago, Count Corian Arren was desperate. His house had been losing power for generations, and he was obsessed with reclaiming it. He commissioned a gate using star-metal ore, hoping to create a portal that would allow Valmere to send its legions directly into their enemies' castles. Instead, it nearly destroyed the world. The gate opened to a cosmic horror, the singularity. The Count's son, Kaidyn Arren, risked his life to destroy the gate. In the process, the void touched him. Changed him.
Now, the Starfall Peninsula is under threat of invasion from one of the continent's massive nations. King Raemar has decided that the whole peninsula must be brought under one banner, no matter the cost. He sends his son Lucian to a summit with Cerulean's king, but even the prince doesn't know how deep his machinations go.
Lucian and Kaidyn head to the summit hoping to bring peace to the peninsula, but even the most noble of goals cannot be accomplished with clean hands. When Raemar's orders bring Kaidyn face to face with the woman he loves, the woman he never wanted to leave in the first place, every choice comes with a cost.
Within him the singularity pulls, its hunger insatiable. He fights to resist the infinite darkness, but in the end gravity always wins.
