Sparking a physical-altercation where Dustin, and his friend Patrick, physically-harm Erik. Erik ultimately attempts to bribe Dustin to leave Ayara alone.

Ayara and Erik find their lives mirroring fiction when they are cast as the leads in their school's production of
Romeo and Juliet. As they navigate the intensity of the tragic romance, Erik finds a clever way to lean into the role, taking full advantage of the script's requirement for the titular characters to kiss seven times. This shared stage presence bridges the gap between them, turning rehearsed lines into genuine moments of connection as they grow increasingly closer under the theater lights.

However, the blossoming bond between the two leads is complicated by the arrival of a new distraction. Erik develops a sudden crush on a girl named Robyn Haughton, introducing a shift in his focus that threatens the rhythm he and Ayara have established. Despite the intimacy required by their play, this new attraction adds a layer of uncertainty to their relationship, leaving the future of their off-stage connection hanging in the balance.

Meanwhile, the growing closeness between Ayara and Erik does not go unnoticed by those in their inner circles. Ayara's sisters and friends begin to feel a rising tide of jealousy, though their motives for the resentment vary. Most notably from Ayara's friend Jennifer. As a bisexual girl harboring deep, unrequited feelings for Ayara, Jennifer finds both the theatrical and off-stage displays of affection between the leads increasingly difficult to endure. While Ayara's sisters worry about her being distracted, Jennifer's resentment is far more personal, as she watches the girl she loves fall for a boy. This friction is further complicated by Natalie, whose own jealousy flares. Natalie's resentment creates a tense triangular dynamic of envy.

During a Girl-Scouts weekend, Ayara hangs out where Jennifer and Natalie are. Jennifer is excited to hang out with her crush (Ayara) in the environment she is most comfortable in. The girls state that they are befriended by older teenage-girls, which Ayara presumes to be an uplifting experience for a pre-teen. However, the events take a negative turn when Ayara, Jennifer, and Natalie are offered alcohol. And Ayara is troubled by the fact that the other girls are displaying Sapphic behavior. Jennnifer & Natalie are exploited, by a teenage Lesbian-Hebephile couple. When she attempts to leave the party, Ayara is harassed and nearly-victimized, at 11, by the same Lesbian-Hebephile teen-couple. Ayara and Jennifer are irate with Natalie. Ayara & Jennifer never discuss the events again.

High-powered lawyers representing Dean approach Ayara with a substantial financial settlement, aimed at keeping her silent. Under immense pressure, emotional exhaustion, and the sting of being disbelieved, she reluctantly accepts the money, feeling that justice is not an option available.

Ayara escapes her world with Erik.
