Daisy Kynd and her father, August, run F & D Kennels, a unique sanctuary built on an old converted barn where greyhounds are trained and rehabilitated with love instead of force. Dedicated to giving neglected animals a fresh start, their quiet lives are disrupted by the arrival of Thunder and Lightning-two severely abused rescues carrying physical and emotional scars. While Thunder slowly warms up to the family, Lightning remains completely terrified of men, finding solace only by Daisy's side.
Just as a fragile trust begins to build, tragedy strikes the sanctuary. During a routine practice run, an act of cruel sabotage causes a horrific accident on the track, leaving multiple dogs seriously injured.
