Far from us, the trilogy of the Earls of Barrow (Stay here with me, Missing pieces of you and Beloved shadows)
Amidst the magical atmosphere of the English countryside of the 19th century and the sumptuous residences of the small towns of the Season, the adventures of the Earls of Barrow and those connected with them in one way or another unfold.
The main characters in the first book of the saga are Emma Wellinton and Gilbert Thorton, brother of the Countess of Barrow, who, in love with the young Emma, manages to win her hand thanks to a bet. Various events will intertwine with theirs and the same characters will be found in the second book, which still features Emma, who, after five years of marriage to Gilbert, is still unable to get romantically close to him. It is only with the death of her husband that Emma realises she loves him and starts digging into Gilbert's past to really get to know him and write a novel about his life. What she discovers, however, is not what she would have wished for. In the third book, the main character becomes the one whom Gilbert and Emma have taken in as their daughter, pretending to be her parents, to hide the fact that Emma was unable to have children. Vittoria's affair is very tragic: hatred that becomes a thwarted love for young Alexander, son of Earl Adam of Barrow, the discovery that she is not the daughter of the Thortons, the loss of all her wealth and finally the desire for revenge against her real father, will bring the young woman to a painful end.
