Evan is about to propose to Lily during their nightly swim through the government-regulated channels of their coastal city when the skyline erupts in explosions and the bridge above them collapses. Pulled under and rescued by mysterious gilled figures, the two lovers are separated and swept into the hidden world of Congo Life Sciences (CLS) - a secretive biotech giant running underwater "evolution" facilities beneath the wreckage of the world they knew.
Evan wakes in Facility 5, told that Lily didn't survive - a lie meant to buy time before the company's brutal inspectors arrive. He soon learns she's alive but has been sent to Facility 4, a facility built to "enhance" female subjects, where CLS's unhinged CEO is hunting for a genetic "unicorn." As Evan is drawn deeper into a world of genetically modified enforcers, morally compromised scientists, and volunteers who don't always survive the transformation, he has to decide how far he'll go - and what he's willing to become - to find his way back to Lily.
