Dennis Mumford is a quiet man with a quiet life. He wears the same gray suits, drinks half a cup of coffee every morning, and translates documents no one else wants to read.
Then his wife has an affair with a man named Larry.
At almost the same time, a mysterious object arrives from somewhere beyond Earth, covered in symbols no one can understand. Dennis is recruited to translate it.
He can't.
So, in one spectacularly bad moment of inspiration, Dennis invents a message:
WE ARE ALREADY AMONG YOU.
YOU WILL KNOW US BY OUR NAME.
OUR NAME IS LARRY.
He expects someone to discover the truth.
Instead, the government believes him.
Soon Larrys are being investigated, registered, detained, and blamed for everything from unexplained radio signals to suspicious lawn care. As the country descends into Larry-induced paranoia, Dennis realizes his private act of revenge has become something much bigger-and much harder to stop.
Now Dennis has to convince an entire country that the truth they desperately want to believe was never true at all.
