Clancy's Dream

And one day, everything changed...

Kenny Shuck never expected his life to revolve around Border Collies. A retired detective and self-described city boy, he believed Dogwood Ridge would simply be a quiet place to live. Instead, one dog opened the door to puppies, muddy paws, endless tennis balls, difficult goodbyes, and a pack that transformed the Farm into something much larger than a home.

At the center of it all was Clancy.

Calm, watchful, and unlike any dog Kenny had ever known, Clancy became the patriarch of the pack and the steady presence around which life at Dogwood Ridge seemed to turn. Then an ordinary afternoon drew a line between everything that came before and everything that followed.

From that turning point grew Clancy's Dream, a rescue mission that carried Kenny beyond the dogs of his own Farm and into puppy-mill investigations, shelter emergencies, transports, foster care, medical crises, and the work of finding the right home for one more Border Collie.

With warmth, humor, faith, and honesty, Clancy's Dream tells how love for a dog becomes responsibility, and how grief can become action without ever ceasing to be grief. These stories celebrate the dogs who stay, the dogs who leave, and the people willing to answer when an animal needs help.

For dog lovers, rescue supporters, and anyone who has ever wondered how deeply an animal can redirect a human life, this memoir offers a moving answer: the dog who finds a place in your heart may also point you toward the work you were meant to do.
