Bearbind is a folk name for convolvulus arvensis, more commonly known as bindweed. In medieval times, bindweed vines were used to bind barley for harvesting, and so a moniker was derived from the old English word for barley: 'bear' or 'bere'. Bearbind soon became a widely used nickname that is still said in parts of the UK today.
Bearbind: a creative writing anthology 'binds' the work of nine authors comprising a variety of literary styles and genres.
Renowned for its distinctive, trumpet-like flowers, delicate creeping stems, and pervasiveness, bindweed continues to spread its impressive vines, to the bane of gardeners everywhere.
