The conclusion of the Wasting Kingdom duology.
Betrothed to the king but secretly wed to her childhood love, Oran, Lavinia is a false queen in a duplicitous court. While their allies work to formulate a plan to unseat King Alaric, the king is eager to show off his bride and hasten the wedding. Rather a traitor to her kingdom than a traitor to her love, Lavinia is desperate to evade the marriage at any cost. With Alaric's storms overhead and the threat of the executioner's block at their back, they are forced to flee, leaving everything behind except what matters most, each other.
Though Lavinia and Oran may escape the palace, they cannot escape the prophecy. Curing the Wasting may be their only hope of earning their freedom. Lavinia must discover how to use her healing magic to cure the rot, but the Wasting is an opponent Lavinia doesn't know how to fight, especially if the prophecy expects her to do it alone.
Crossing the border, reveals that the Wasting is not Tythmore's only affliction. Drafted into the rebellion effort, the pair find themselves in the midst of a power struggle that resembles the one they left behind in Proventium. The rebellion expects Oran's fire to win Tythmore the war, but Oran doesn't wish to blindly serve any leader, especially when he fears that the demands of the rebellion seek to pull him away from Lavinia.
While Oran struggles to reconcile his loyalty with what the rebellion expects of him, Lavinia fights to unravel the mystery of the prophecy. With war descending across both kingdoms, their time is running out. To save themselves and both kingdoms, they must discover a way for fate and love to reign.
