This book is the first of three parts of a single work. Its subject is a scholarly attempt to address the root causes of pathological behaviors prevalent in Egyptian society, among both rulers and ruled. These behaviors stem from a harmful legacy accumulated over more than thirteen centuries of oppression and humiliation. This research is not intended for self-flagellation or to offer advice, for we are neither ill enough to engage in the former nor do we possess the hope to offer counsel. However, confronting this society by exposing its flaws without equivocation or fear becomes an imperative for those working in the field of social history, to which this research belongs. It may well be the first contribution in this direction. We are religious, yet we empty religion of its substance. We possess moral values ??that are mere slogans and proverbs, devoid of reflection in our behavior. Between us all as a society there is an unwritten pact, a gentleman's agreement to exchange lies and hypocrisy without ever admitting to one another that we are deceiving each other. Perhaps we all observe the increasing reliance on religious outward appearances in dress, rituals, and so on. But the rampant spread of all forms of corruption and social deviance is even greater!Everyone says: the government is bad, but no one realizes that the people are actually worse. We suffer under tyrants whom we ourselves create, and we accuse others of corruption and depravity, yet we don't confront our own. A nation that obeys the law but never misses an opportunity to break it. We cheer for our tyrants while they are in power, and curse them as soon as they are gone, leaving no example or role model among us. We fear being caught in our sins by others, yet we are not ashamed to catch ourselves in them. We fear each other but not God "e;We fear, but we have no shame."e;
