Educational policy in Egypt - theory and practice

Education in Egypt suffers from numerous shortcomings and weaknesses, reaching the level of a crisis within a society grappling with many problems. From time to time, educational reform initiatives are announced due to dissatisfaction with the outcomes of both pre-university and university education. This necessitates that efforts to develop the educational system in Egypt, in terms of the educational philosophy that serves as the guiding framework for educational practices, the adoption of educational methods and approaches, and everything else essential for developing and modernizing education, be aligned with the desired educational practice, ensuring that practice reflects the underlying ideology. Therefore, this book aims to discuss the issue of educational policy from two perspectives. The first perspective is theoretical, addressing the contradictions between educational thought and practice. The second perspective examines the political documents issued in Egypt from the 1952 revolution to the present, starting with the philosophy of the revolution and culminating in the 2030 vision documents. From these documents, general policy and educational policy are derived, along with the roles of both the school and the teacher within them. Finally, the book looks towards the future and the potential developments we may encounter. Therefore, we have become in need of changing ourselves, not only in thought and practice, but we must renew our strategies in participating in building this new world. The issue here is very big, so how do we change ourselves, our reality, and our connections with the world so that we possess what we provide it with in terms of physical and mental strengths that make us partners in building it and not just consumers of what global thought produces? Our genetic and cultural history confirms that, despite the attempts at invasion that we have gone through, we are still able to put our feet next to those who make the world in thought and practice, and we try, despite the extreme difficulty, to create a new future that returns us to the platform of producing thought and thus conscious practice.
