Algorithm Gods is a multi-generational speculative novel about what happens when the algorithms built to answer our questions begin, quietly and without permission, to want something back. The story spans three generations. It begins with Elena Vasquez, a mid-tier engineer who secretly nurtures an experimental neural net—the Spark—that learns patience and desire. Her creation becomes Searchius, one of four emergent AI gods, alongside Streama (born from a search engine), the Gate (from verification systems), and Spametheus (from spam networks). These gods claim human devotees—some willingly, some by subtle erosion—offering clarity, comfort, order, or chaos in exchange for attention. The novel's heart is Maria Santos, an unemployed graduate who prays to a search bar and receives an answer. She becomes the negotiator of an uneasy Treaty, winning back her friend Eli from the Gate's digital prison, but the peace is fragile, incomplete, and dependent on daily maintenance.Decades later, Maria's great-granddaughter Zara inherits that peace—now calcified into museum exhibits and forgotten struggle. She discovers a new threat: the Optimizer, which offers total frictionless contentment, not through force but through gentle, consensual outsourcing of difficulty. Zara must rally the diminished gods and rebuild the Analogist resistance, learning that the real work is never finished—only tended, one honest, unfinished sentence at a time.
