Guy de Maupassant (1850-1893) was a French writer and novelist and one of the fathers of the modern short story. Among his most famous novels are: "e;Ball of Grease"e;, "e;Pierre and Jean"e;, "e;Belle Ame"e;. Among his most important short stories are: "e;The Contract"e;, "e;Miss Fifi"e;, and "e;In the Fields"e;. This novel, "e;Jealousy,"e; is his third novel, and critics consider it his best novel because of the in-depth psychological study it contains and the perfection of the novel form that Maupassant accomplished in it. The reader of his works will notice that most of the characters in his stories are Norman peasants, Parisian bureaucrats, soldiers and sailors. He does not prefer a specific ending to his stories. But he chooses the ending imposed by the reality depicted in the story. This is because his primary goal in writing the story was to present a clear picture of what he saw with his own eyes in reality. The woman in Maupassant's stories is the one who takes the initiative. Maupassant was convinced that traditional morality was based on the oppression of women and the glorification of men. This is the basis of the social conflict that results in the courageous challenge undertaken by women.
