Die Aufgabe guten Webdesigns ist es, eine Userumgebung zu schaffen, in der der Besucher einer Website sich intuitiv zurecht findet und auf diese nach dem zügigen Befriedigen seines Bedürfnisses gerne immer wieder zurückkehrt. Mit diesem Anspruch behandelt das vorliegende Buch die Neugestaltung einer Website für ein Universitätsinstitut. Die Grundlage für das Konzept der neugestalteten Website ergibt sich erstens aus einer Untersuchung von Referenzwebsites, zweitens aus der Aufarbeitung der Theorie zur Mensch-Maschine-Schnittstelle und drittens aus dem Literaturstudium zum Thema der Website Usability. Das so erstellte Konzept beinhaltet Designanforderungen bezüglich der Strukturierung des Siteinhalts, der Wahl der eingesetzten Technologie und der Gestaltung eines konsistenten Erscheinungsbildes. Im nächsten Schritt wird eine Website auf Grundlage des erarbeiteten Designkonzepts modelliert und anschließend implementiert. Abschließend wird die Site auf ihre browserübergreifende Konsistenz getestet.
