La détermination de la nature d'un mot en langue française peut parfois s'avérer comme une tâche fort complexe, ceci dans dans la mesure oů les mots une fois en discours, sont souvent destinés ŕ plusieurs emplois. Un męme mot en effet peut assumer plusieurs classes syntaxiques en fonction de son contexte d'emploi. Le présent ouvrage s'intéresse ainsi ŕ ce phénomčne de changement de classes syntaxiques, encore appelé chez les guillaumiens "dévolution occasionnelle du régime d'incidence"; en s'interrogeant particuličrement sur les différents statuts du morphčme "męme". Ledit morphčme est en fait ŕ męme d'assumer sept classes syntaxiques, ŕ savoir: le déterminant, l'adjectif qualificatif, le pronom, l'adverbe, le nom, la conjonction et la préposition. Comment justifier et nuancer alors un fonctionnement aussi varié que complexe d'un seul mot? L'ouvrage nous édifie en montrant que certains mots, ŕ l'instar de "męme" ne sauraient appartenir ŕ une classe grammaticale précise: le statut du mot est fonction de l'emploi discursif qu'on en fait.
