Questo volume monografico, parte della collana “Guide di Architettura Contemporanea Genovese”, esplora la storia e la tecnica della Torre SIP (oggi Torre San Vincenzo), indiscusso landmark dello skyline di Genova. Progettato tra il 1964 e il 1969 da un team d’eccezione composto da Melchiorre Bega, Piero Gambacciani e Attilio Viziano, l’edificio segna un punto di svolta nell’ingegneria nazionale. Il testo analizza il valore pionieristico dell’opera: primo grattacielo in Italia con struttura portante interamente in acciaio prefabbricata, la torre divenne simbolo della potenza industriale Italsider e della spinta modernista degli anni Sessanta. L’autrice ricostruisce le vicende urbanistiche che portarono alla sua edificazione nell’area di San Vincenzo e ne dettaglia le scelte tecnologiche, dalla rapidità di montaggio all’uso di materiali innovativi come l’acciaio smaltato e le leghe leggere. Corredato da riferimenti al documentario storico “Nasce un grattacielo”, il libro offre una lettura approfondita di un’architettura che, con il suo rigore formale, ha ridefinito il paesaggio urbano genovese.
