Der Konzern will außerdem Kraftwerkskapazitäten in Deutschland im Volumen von 4 800 Megawatt abgeben. Das entspricht immerhin knapp einem Fünftel der eigenen Kapazität in Deutschland und rund acht Prozent der gesamten Eon-Kapazität. Der Konzern kommt damit der EU-Kommission entgegen, die eine Entbündelung von Stromproduktion und Netzbetrieb fordert. Eon entgeht damit einerseits geschickt einer drohenden Geldbuße in Höhe eines zweistelligen Milliardenbetrags aus dem laufenden EU-Kartellverfahren und entledigt sich andererseits einer zunehmend weniger rentabel betriebenen Geschäftssparte.
