Secrets in the Middle

Emma Fleming is returning home to Georgia after a seventeen year absence. She is putting her skyrocketing career on hold to sit with her dying mother, the same woman who was responsible for Emma's child being taken away from her eighteen years earlier. Emma is determined to put the sins of her family's past behind her in order to grant her mother's last wish to have her long-lost daughter back in the Fleming home. On her first day back in Jesup, she meets a handsome retired police detective Kel Walsh, who is open about his interest in Emma, but not much else. Emma has the unsettling feeling he is keeping secrets from her, but she finds spending time with him a welcome escape from her own complicated family. Kel is also investigating the cold case murder of a young teen, Kayla Gordon, who was strangled to death in Jesup by an unknown assailant. As Emma navigates the turbulent emotions surrounding the traumatic events in the Fleming house nearly two decades earlier, she finds herself irresistibly drawn to Kel, unaware his investigation of Kayla Gordon will reveal deeper secrets of Jesup and the Fleming family than Emma may be prepared to accept.
