This contributed volume is the outcome of rich research initiatives started during the special Trimester on multiple zeta values and theoretical physics that was held at the ICMAT (Instituto de Ciencias Matemáticas, Madrid) during the year 2014. Feynman and string amplitudes on one side and periods and multiple zeta values on the other are at the center of an intense interaction between theoretical physics and number theory in the last decades. In this work, the reader will find relevant survey articles by Todorov and Schlotterer on the relation between number theory and QFT and string theory and a survey by Panzer on open problems in the periods associated with Feynman integrals. Topics covered by this volume also include: q-analogues of multiple zeta values (also in connection with renormalization); elliptic periods viewed from the mathematical and from the physical sides; alternative presentations of multiple zeta values like the language of moulds developed by Ecalle; some other combinatorial structures related with multiple zeta values and polylogarithms; a distribution formula for complex and l-adic polylogarithms; further relations between periods and high-energy physics, and many more. Researchers and graduate students interested in topics related to both theoretical physics and number theory will find this volume very useful.
