Buchanans Umgang mit seinen antiken Vorbildern und der biblischen Vorlage sowie der direkte Vergleich seiner Dichtung mit anderen poetischen Psalmenparaphrasen erlaubt ein fundiertes Gesamturteil: George Buchanan ist ein wahrer Meister seines Faches, der mit Recht den an Vergil erinnernden Ehrentitel Olor Caledonius zugesprochen bekommen hat.
