A partir da ideia de que a memória se concentra na forma como os sujeitos e as sociedades se lembram e se esquecem de fatos que ocorreram no passado, a pesquisa também tem o objetivo de identificar e de apontar o processo no qual o Caldeirăo foi "apagado" da memória oficial e o modo como ocorreu esse processo, ao longo do período em que a comunidade existiu, chegando aos dias atuais. A obra também aborda o reencontro do Caldeirăo, a partir da perspectiva de que, após o processo de esquecimento, surgiram iniciativas que trouxeram a comunidade de volta ŕ memória.
