Aussi bien ce roman de la folie de Don Juan d'Autriche, bâtard de Charles Quint, semblable comme dit Sciascia « au souvenir d'un rêve: très fort, lourd d'inquiétude et de prémonition », est-il un prodigieux chef-d'œuvre, qui n'est pas sans faire songer à tel récit d'Artaud. Hier encore inconnu, aujourd'hui révélé, demain: enfin célèbre, voici un roman comme vous n'en avez jamais lu de semblable.
