Sie erzählt mehrere komplizierte Brautwerbungsgeschichten über vier Generationen hinweg, Hinweise zu einer topographischen Ansiedlung reichen von Dänemark und Holstein über die Normandie bis in fabelhafte Anderswelten. Eine Spur der Stoffgeschichte führt zu einer isländischen Hildesage, und dann lehnt sich das Epos auch noch formal ans "Nibelungenlied" an, steht in Nibelungenstrophen und scheint manchmal auf das "Nibelungenlied" zu antworten. Die Überlieferung ist denkbar schmal und spät, was aber das Interesse der Altgermanistik an diesem Text, der hier erstmals mit Übersetzung dargeboten wird, nicht schmälert.
