About the AuthorBarrie Cooke was born to theatrical parents in the South of Wales town of Port Talbot in 1925. He left school, aged fourteen, with no qualifications, and worked for the Great Western Railway. When was his father died and his mother moved to London (at a time when all sensible were leaving that city) and he was transferred to Acton. He joined the RAF in 1946 as an Armament Fitter (Weapons) and served in Malta, Cyprus, Egypt and Germany. Ending his service career in 1968, he went to work for GEC Avionics as a Technical Writer, and also served as an RAFVR officer from 1974 to 1983 training ATC cadets. During the writing of Help Us To Die he drew extensively on his service experience. He then lived with his wife in Norfolk before moving to live with his son in sleaford where he lived out his remaining years.
