In Effective Giving

Each year, charitable givers donate vast amounts of money to organizations that have but a fraction of the impact of the most effective charities. Known as ineffective altruism, academics and professional nonprofits have been campaigning for more effective giving and have gained both influence and intellectual interest. This book uses empirical research to explain the psychological phenomena behind ineffective altruism. The book begins by explaining these psychological aspects. Next, it discusses how we can address these issues and increase the effectiveness. It covers both less costly informational, nudging, and incentivization techniques, on the one hand, and more fundamental value change, on the other. The book ends with a discussion of how to implement effective altruism in practice, in a way that's informed by psychological research.
