In 1974 in the middle of the night, two Grave Robbers desecrate a Confederate Burial trench on a Civil War Battlefield. While looking for relics and pieces from the past to sell, the two men brought back to life, Ghost Rebel Cavalrymen. The two men were dispatched quickly and the Commander of the Cavalry, a Captain Jordasche took his rightful leadership position. His leadership was challenged from a rogue mutinous Sergeant, Sergeant Boydstun. Half of the riders stayed with Jordasche, the others to follow Boydstun create mayhem and havoc for their cause. A young boy, Johnny Jordasche age 10, Captain Jordasche's Great Great Grandson, watched the action from his bedroom window. His home was on the other side of the road from the National Military Park where the grave was disrupted.
Johnny's father is the Military Park Ranger, he's a Vietnam Veteran who came home to Tennessee to raise his family. Billy Jordasche's best friend, Bud Harris, also a war veteran is the County Sheriff.
Johnny has told his parents at breakfast, what he saw and they of course they call it a bad dream, a nightmare. He knows what he saw, a Rebel Cavalry troop, split with riders going in different directions.
The gruesome discovery of the executed grave robbers and the appearance that the mass grave had been fully dug up, leaves Billy and Bud wondering what could happen next.
A new college graduate, Lindy Brook a journalist hears about the grave disturbance, and she makes her way to the battlefield, and what happens over the next two weeks is a harrowing adventure.
The rogue cavalry begins to burn barns and structures, the people in the area are terrified and the reporter after having seen and heard much of this knows she needs to reach out her sorority house mother from a college, a see and such who sees visions and the unseen.
They all wonder, how, the Ghost Cavalry can be stopped, and Miss Clarice knows, Yankees must be summoned to so that the rebels can reunite to fight the common foe. And so, the party goes into the Union Cemetery with their shovels. Johnny Jordashe is taken Back to 1862, the year of the battle where he meets his ancestor. Miss Clarice while on a tour of the battlefield, goes into the essence of time and joins a group of slaves escaping on the Underground Railroad. Billy, Bud and Lindy cross the timeline and go back to 1862 to bring the boy home. The National Guard has now surrounded the battlefield, and are waiting to intervene, but which side will they fight on now as thousands of Ghost Soldiers are preparing for a fight. Johnny is rescued and the battle ultimately ends when the ghosts of Lee and Grant meet in the middle of the battle.
