Esther Eppstein ist als Künstlerin und Kunstvermittlerin eine zentrale Figur der Schweizer Kulturszene. Von 1996 bis 2013 betrieb sie den heute legendären Kunstraum "message salon" in Zürich. Zuerst an der Ankerstrasse beheimatet, 1998/99 in einem Wohnwagen, dann am Rigiplatz und anschliessend in der Perla Mode, einem ehemaligen Kleidergeschäft an der Langstrasse, war der message salon das Zentrum eines Netzwerks von Kunstschaffenden und Kunstinteressierten. Zahlreiche heute bekannte Künstlerinnen und Künstler hatten hier ihren ersten öffentlichen Auftritt. Für Esther Eppstein ist der "message salon" eine soziale Skulptur und die 58 Fotoalben, mit denen sie Ausstellungen, Film-, Musik- und Performanceabende sowie Besucher festhielt, ihr Kunstprojekt.§Dieses Buch lässt mit einer Auswahl aus Eppsteins Alben das Leben und die Kunst im "message salon" Revue passieren. Der Text von Nadine Olonetzky basiert auf einem ausführlichen Gespräch mit Esther Eppstein und der Kunsthistorikerin Jacqueline Burckhardt. Kerim Seilers Beitrag ist eine Hommage an den "message salon" und seine Gastgeberin.
