No existe un real consenso sobre el origen de estas lenguas, pero sí un punto de convergencia: el euskera, una de las más viejas lenguas del continente europeo, no tendría ninguna relación con ellas y todo parecido sería fruto de los préstamos tomados a las lenguas de su entorno. La tesis de doctorado en lingüística de Eñaut Etxamendi viene a contradecir esta hipótesis. Comparando el euskera con las viejas lenguas indoeuropeas, esta tesis no sólo hace resaltar las importantes similitudes que las unen, sino que introduce una nueva mirada sobre su léxico y gramática, hasta tal punto que nos podemos preguntar cuál fue la real aportación del euskera a las lenguas indoeuropeas. Con este libro pretendemos vulgarizar el contenido de la tesis, es decir, hacerla accesible a la gran mayoría, gracias a un vocabulario exento de los términos cultos de la lingüística y a una presentación lúdica. Cada cual podrá hacerse así su propia opinión.
