Verschiedene Reisen führen Jungjin Lee Anfang der 1990er Jahren in die endlosen Weiten Amerikas, wo sie Wüsten, Felsen, Gestrüpp und Kakteen in archaischen Urmomenten festhält. Ihre fragmentarisch poetischen Bildserien beschrieb der große Robert Frank einmal als "landscapes without the human beast". Aus ihrer südkoreanischen Herkunft schöpfend entwickelte die Künstlerin in Werkgruppen wie Ocean, On Road, Pagodas, Things und Wind eine höchst eigenwillige Bildsprache, in der ihr elemen­tares Interesse an Natur und Kultur einen poetischen Resonanzraum findet. Jungjin Lee greift in ihrem Schaffen auf ein tiefgreifendes Verständ­nis für Materialität, Textur und Handwerk zurück. Im Liquid-Light-Ver­fahren trägt sie mit grobem Pinsel flüssige, lichtempfindliche Emulsion auf Reispapier auf. Unsauberkeiten im Entwicklungsprozess und Fehlstel­len in der Verarbeitung brechen mit dem vermeintlichen Wahrheitsan­spruch der Fotografie. Die grossformatigen Abzüge von Jungjin Lee entfal­ten eine physische Präsenz, die uns unmittelbar in ihren Bann zieht. Das Buch erscheint zur Ausstellung Jungjin Lee ECHO im Fotomuseum Winterthur.
