Mediziner raubten über 1.660 Gebeine aus Ainu-Gräbern; aber auch in Europa war das Interesse an den "haarigen Kurilen" groß. Erst 2008 wurden die Ainu als Ureinwohner Japans offiziell anerkannt.§Gespräche zur Restitution von Gebeinen und zu Fragen der Ainu-Identität runden den Band ab.
