During the campaign of the Roman general Agricola in ad 79, Colne was first recorded and in the year 1120, the town received a Markets and Fairs Charter. By 1311, a fulling mill is producing woollen goods and by the year 1810, King Cotton had begun its reign, culminating in a total of fifty-three cotton mills being established during the Victorian era.Today, Second World War babies, Geoff Crambie and Colin Bean have witnessed, during their combined 140 years in Colne, truly astounding changes.
