Der international bekannte Berliner plein air-Maler Christopher Lehmpfuhl (geb. 1972) reiste im Sommer 2017 zum ersten Mal nach Georgien, um dieses im Umbruch befindliche, landschaftlich reizvolle Land mit seiner faszinierenden Geschichte künstlerisch festzuhalten. Lehmpfuhls Reise führte ihn in den Nordosten Georgiens, in die Bergregion Kasbeki im Großen Kaukasus und ins Dariali-Tal, nach Tiflis und in die östliche Weinbauregion Sighnaghi. Das Ergebnis ist eine kraftvolle zeitgenössische Freiluftmalerei mit Landschafts- und Architekturmotiven, die sich erspüren und erleben lässt. Lehmpfuhls Arbeiten werden von Fotografien ergänzt, die den passionierten plein air-Maler beim Schaffensprozess vor Ort zeigen, sowie von einem Erlebnisbericht von Mamuka Bliadze, der ihn nach Georgien begleitete. Ein Essay des renommierten englischen Kunsthistorikers und Kurators Mark Gisbourne beleuchtet das Werk aus kunsthistorischer Perspektive.
