Ein umfangreicher Teil ist der linearen und elastisch-plastischen Bruchmechanik gewidmet. Weitere Themen sind die Kriechbruchmechanik, Bruchdynamik, Schädigungsmechanik sowie die probabilistische Bruchmechanik. Eine Einführung in die Mikromechanik und die Homogenisierung elastischer, elastisch-plastischer und thermoelastischer Materialien ergänzt das Werk.§§Die 6. Auflage enthält zahlreiche Erweiterungen, unter anderem auch zu Aspekten der numerischen Behandlung bruchmechanischer Probleme.§
