Origin and History.
Scientifically referred to as Betta splendens, betta fish are among the most widely kept freshwater aquarium fish in the world. This is a centuries-old custom that has its origins in gaming and leisure. The combatants gave rise to the beautiful variety we see today because they were carefully bred for resilience, beauty, and fighting capability.
