BEAT THE BULLY

In BEAT THE BULLY, Dr. Ryan E. Lazar examines the effectiveness of the Anti-Bully programs implemented in a Michigan school district in the reduction of direct bullying and creation of positive school climate on upper elementary and middle school students in grades four through eight. The entire population of fourth through eighth grade students in the district was examined over three historical points in time in regard to suspension data related to direct-bullying incidents. Dr. Lazar also investigated the effect that gender and grade level have on both bully-related suspensions and students' perceptions of school violence and climate. Lazar offers an extremely detailed review of the literature in the field pertaining to bullying. Furthermore, he has created a thought provoking discussion of his results accompanied by powerful suggestions for anyone in the field facing the plaguing issue of bullying. Finally, Dr. Lazar leaves the reader to contemplate implications that will surely facilitate future research.
