Este texto, denominado "Afroecuatorianos: un Movimiento Social emergente", constituye el fruto del trabajo investigativo desarrollado en Ecuador por los consultores sociales Henry Medina Vallejo y Mary Castro Torres entre los ańos 2000-2005, y realiza una aproximación a profundidad de la realidad social y el proceso organizativo del pueblo afroecuatoriano a través de dos secciones que conforman una unidad temática. La primera sección, desarrollada por Henry Medina, y titulada "Condiciones de Vida y Organizaciones Sociales Afroecuatorianas en Esmeraldas, Valle del Chota-Mira, y Pichincha" presenta un diagnóstico general de la situación económica y social de la población afroecuatoriana en 4 provincias del Ecuador y, a la vez, una aproximación a la situación organizativa de los afrodescendientes en estas regiones. En la segunda sección, titulada "El Movimiento Negro en Quito y su lucha contra la discriminación", Mary Castro presenta los resultados de una investigación a profundidad del proceso de conformación del movimiento afroquiteńo y la manera en que la organización social sirve como mecanismo orientado al fortalecimiento de su identidad y lucha contra la discriminación.
